Starting September 1st, travelers heading to Cambodia will be able to pay their visa-on-arrival fees online before their departure.
Last week, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced a new feature in the country’s visa processing system.
Beginning September 1, 2024, foreign travelers arriving in Cambodia by air can electronically pay their visa-on-arrival fees.
This new online system aims to simplify the entry process, eliminating the need for travelers to queue up to pay their visa fees in cash upon arrival in the country.
The three international airports offering this solution are:
- Phnom Penh International Airport;
- Siem Reap International Airport;
- Sihanoukville International Airport.
According to our information, the visa-on-arrival fee payment will be accessible through the Cambodia e-Arrival portal, where travelers can complete their e-Arrival Card before their departure.
“This measure is intended for foreign travelers, aims to attract tourists to Cambodia, and reduce hassles,” stated Hun Manet, adding that the electronic payment system could also apply to visa applications at embassies and consulates abroad.
Cambodia postpones mandatory e-Arrival Card to 2025
Earlier this year, Cambodia launched a new electronic arrival card (e-Arrival Card) process replacing the paper immigration procedures previously completed upon arrival in the country.
Introduced in a pilot phase between January and June 2024, the electronic arrival card was set to become a mandatory entry requirement for Cambodia starting July 1, 2024, but authorities have decided to postpone this requirement to next year.
Indeed, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced last month the extension of the system’s trial period until the end of 2024, with the official implementation of the e-Arrival Card beginning on January 1, 2025, when all passengers will need to complete the electronic form.
During this extended pilot phase, passengers have the option to fill out either the electronic form or the standard paper forms upon arrival in Cambodia.
The e-Arrival Card in Cambodia consolidates immigration, visa application, customs, and health information into a single online form.
This online travel declaration, free of charge (excluding potential visa fees) and to be completed within 7 days prior to arrival in Cambodia, is accessible on the official portal www.arrival.gov.kh, or via the Cambodia e-Arrival mobile app available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
