Introduced in the summer of 2023, Russia’s electronic visa (e-Visa) allows nationals of 64 countries, including European nations, to travel to Russia for tourism, business, humanitarian, or private purposes.
The application process is conducted entirely online through a dedicated section of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website and does not require an official invitation, hotel reservation, or any other supporting documents.
The Russian e-Visa allows a single entry into the country and costs US$52. It is issued free of charge for children under the age of six, and applications are processed within five calendar days.
Gradually rolled out nationwide, the e-Visa program now relies on an extensive network of authorized entry points, to which a new border crossing has just been added.
Kyzyl airport added to the list of eligible entry points
By a decree signed on January 21, 2026, by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Russia has added a new air entry point accessible with an electronic visa: Kyzyl Airport.
Located in southern Siberia, Kyzyl is the capital of the Republic of Tuva, a mountainous region bordering Mongolia that is known for its rich cultural heritage, nomadic traditions, and striking natural landscapes. The city is also often described as one of the geographic centers of Asia, a symbolic designation highlighted locally.
With this addition, Kyzyl Airport becomes the country’s 107th authorized entry point for travelers holding an e-Visa.
A 106th entry point added in Transbaikal in December
Just weeks before Kyzyl Airport was added, Russian authorities expanded the e-Visa program once again with the inclusion, in December, of the Zabaykalsk road border crossing, which became the 106th entry point accessible with an electronic visa.
Since that expansion, all international border crossings along the Transbaikalian section of the Russia–China border are now open to travelers holding an e-Visa.
At the time, Alexander Osipov, governor of Transbaikal, emphasized that “the federal government places great importance on developing border infrastructure in Transbaikal. Thanks to this new decision, tourist flows will increase and tourism revenues will grow.”
The 107 entry points accessible with an electronic visa
With the addition of Kyzyl Airport, Russia now has 107 entry points, including air, sea, rail, and road crossings, through which foreign travelers may enter the country using an electronic visa.
Russian authorities believe that the e-Visa system, which is part of the government program titled Foreign Policy Activities, contributes to the development of tourism, enhances regional investment appeal, and more broadly supports the country’s economic growth.
