The Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of Somalia today announced the official launch of its electronic visa service (e-Visa/eTAS), which will be operational from September 1, 2025.
Accessible online via the www.evisa.gov.so portal, this system aims to modernize entry procedures and facilitate the process for foreign travelers.
Thanks to this platform, presented by VisasNews a few months ago, foreign nationals will be able to apply for a visa online, without having to visit an embassy or consulate.
According to the ICA, the launch of the e-Visa/eTAS system is “a historic initiative that will bring Somalia in line with electronic systems used around the world.”
The Director of the Department of Foreigners and Immigration, Isaaq Hassan Taakow, said that this modern online visa application system had been in the works for a long time. “It will make it easier for foreigners to apply for visas from any country and will be available very soon. Specialized agents have been trained to ensure efficient and rapid visa issuance,” he explained.
“Somalia joins the world in adopting digital visa solutions”
ICA Director General Mustafa Duhulow emphasized that Somalia has today taken a major historic step, demonstrating that the country is in line with modern international systems.
“Today Somalia joins the world in adopting digital visa solutions. The e-Visa will protect national security, safeguard data, strengthen the economy, and simplify travel,” said Mustafa Duhulow.
The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency also announced that certain foreigners will be exempt from eTAS requirements:
- Holders of multiple-entry visas;
- Residents with permits;
- Diplomats & UNLP passport holders;
- Citizens from countries with bilateral free-movement agreements.
“Everyone else will now require the e-Visa,” warned the head of the ICA.
The Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, confirmed that “as of September 1, foreign nationals entering the country will be required to comply with the e-Visa system.” “All visa fees will be paid online and deposited directly into the accounts of the Ministry of Finance. This ensures transparency, accountability, and a secure and efficient system,” the minister said.
