Brazil is preparing to host one of the world’s biggest climate events: the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), scheduled to take place in Belém, Amazonas, from November 10 to 21, 2025.

To facilitate the arrival of tens of thousands of expected delegates, observers, and NGO members, the Brazilian government has decided to implement a free electronic visa (e-Visa) for all accredited individuals.

“The electronic visa system for COP 30 reinforces the Brazilian government’s commitment to ensuring that all accredited representatives are able to participate effectively and can receive, free of charge and quickly, the necessary documentation for their trip to Belém,” said Valter Correia, Special Secretary for COP 30.

Valid until December 31, 2025, this electronic document will allow multiple entries into Brazilian territory, with stays of up to 90 days each.

Obtaining this visa will not require any visits to consulates. Everything will be done online, via a platform developed by the Federal Data Processing Service (SERPRO).

Participants must first be accredited by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Once validated, they will receive a personalized link allowing them to submit their application, accompanied by the required documents: passport photo, copy of passport, and proof of registration for COP 30.

According to the government, the processing time will be around ten working days, provided that the application is made at least four weeks before the event, i.e., before October 10, 2025.

Enhanced logistics for a major summit

COP 30 is expected to attract more than 40,000 participants from nearly 200 countries, including heads of state, diplomats, scientists, and environmental activists.

To cope with this influx, the Brazilian government has also worked to increase transport capacity: +23% more domestic flights and +44% more international connections are already planned compared to the previous year.

For the Brazilian authorities, the introduction of this free e-Visa system should facilitate the arrival of participants and streamline the management of flows during COP 30. This decision also marks a break with previous practice: until now, online e-Visa applications were only open to citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia. Its extension to all accredited participants demonstrates Brazil’s desire to host the event in the best possible conditions and to strengthen its role in international climate discussions.

By choosing Belém, in the heart of the Amazon, Brazil hopes to make COP 30 an international showcase for forest conservation and ecological transition. The government hopes that this simplification of procedures will encourage broader and more inclusive participation, particularly for NGOs, researchers, and local communities.
