Azerbaijan simplifies its electronic visa

Azerbaijan has just removed a requirement for foreigners wishing to obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa).

Travelers applying for an “Asan Viza” to visit Azerbaijan no longer need to provide their travel history in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

This minor relaxation of the e-Visa application formalities was decreed on July 22, 2024 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Before this date, electronic visa applicants had to indicate whether they had “visited the Nagorno-Karabakh region or any other areas occupied by the Republic of Armenia since 1991”.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a long-standing war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, centered on the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a mountainous enclave in Azerbaijan primarily populated by Armenians.

Electronic visa for Azerbaijan can be obtained in a few hours

Citizens of 90 countries are eligible to obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) to visit Azerbaijan via the evisa.gov.az portal.

Named “Asan Viza,” the standard electronic visa (25 US$) is issued within 3 business days, and the urgent e-Visa (60 US$) within 3 hours following the completion of the online application.

The e-Visa for Azerbaijan is valid for a period of 90 days, allowing a single entry for a stay of up to 30 days in the country.

The categories of travel authorized with an “Asan Viza” include tourism, business, science, education, work, culture, sports, humanitarian activities, medical treatment, personal trips, and official trips.

For stays longer than 10 days in Azerbaijan, travelers must register for free:

  • Online, via the migration portal www.migration.gov.az: choose “Electronic Services” (Elektron xidmətlər) then “Residence Registration” (ƏCNƏBİLƏRİN VƏ VƏTƏNDAŞLIĞI OLMAYAN ŞƏXSLƏRİN AZƏRBAYCAN RESPUBLİKASINDA OLDUĞU YER ÜZRƏ QEYDİYYATA ALINMASI);
  • Directly with the regional migration departments.
