India: a new seaport entry point for e-Visa holders

India has just added a sixth seaport to the list of entry points for international tourists with an electronic visa (e-Visa).

India continues to position itself as a top destination for travelers from around the world, thanks in part to the ease of obtaining its electronic visa (e-Visa).

Previously, the e-Visa allowed entry into India from “only” 31 international airports and 5 seaports. The country has now expanded its list of entry points for e-Visa holders.

In an effort to boost maritime tourism (cruises, yachts, superyachts, etc.), India now permits tourists with an e-Visa to enter the country through the seaport of Port Blair.

A true gem of the Indian Ocean and the picturesque capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair is nestled amid lush nature and bordered by pristine beaches.

Port Blair is famous for its Cellular Jail, a somber reminder of the British colonial era, now transformed into a museum. Visitors can also explore beautiful coral reefs, ideal for diving and snorkeling, or relax on the sandy beaches.

31 airports and 6 seaports in India welcome e-Visa holders

The electronic visa can be requested from the official portal: indianvisaonline.gov.in and is available in several categories, including tourist (e-Tourist Visa), business (e-Business Visa), and Ayush (e-Ayush Visa).

With an approved electronic visa in hand, travelers can enter India via the following checkpoints:

Airports:

  • Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bombay (or Mumbai), Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa (Dabolim), Goa (Mopa), Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kannur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Nagpur, Port Blair, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.

Seaports:

  • Chennai, Cochin, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Mangalore and Port Blair.

To exit India, or for a new entry with the same valid e-Visa, travelers can use any of the country’s 107 official checkpoints.
