Yemen is modernizing its immigration system by introducing an electronic visa (e-Visa) for foreign visitors.
In recent years, Yemen has faced ongoing instability due to internal conflicts, humanitarian crises, and diplomatic restrictions. The country remains under international scrutiny, with consular services sometimes suspended or limited, particularly in certain foreign embassies.
In response to these challenges, the authorities have recently embarked on a major digital transformation to modernize public services, particularly those related to entry procedures, with a focus on simplifying and securing visa applications.
Launch of the electronic visa in Yemen
It is in this context that the Yemeni government, through the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority, launched an electronic visa (e-Visa) system on June 24, 2025.
“The Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority in Aden, the temporary capital, today officially launched the e-Visa gateway project, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in cooperation and coordination with the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, and funded by the United States of America, a friendly country,” said the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Yemeni diplomacy said that “this project is part of the directives of His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Council, and the government’s efforts to strengthen controls at various borders and entry points and to automate all services provided there.”
A single portal for different types of visas
Accessible via the official platform yemenevisa.org, the service now allows users to apply for several types of visas online: group tourism, business, diplomatic, work, and transit.
The conditions for obtaining a visa vary depending on the category, but generally require the presentation of a copy of your passport (valid for at least 180 days), a return ticket, a health certificate, and supporting documents appropriate to the purpose of your stay (invitation letter, admission certificate, proof of financial resources).
The process is designed to be simple and almost entirely digital. After creating an account on the portal, applicants fill out an online form and upload the required documents.
Online payment of visa fees is not currently available. The Yemeni authorities explain that “cash payments in US dollars will be processed through the main center at the Immigration, Passports and Citizenship Department in the interim capital Aden through the temporary host or through the collection of consulates and embassies until the procedures for globally approved electronic payment accounts are completed.”
The electronic visa is issued by email within a stated period of 3 to 5 working days after receipt of the complete file by the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority (IPNA).
