Uganda: e-Visa system back in operation

The Uganda e-Visa portal, which has been inaccessible for 10 days due to a system update, is now operational again.

The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Uganda announces the completion of the upgrade of its electronic visa (e-Visa) portal.

Ten days ago, Ugandan authorities temporarily suspended the e-Visa system to carry out a critical upgrade. During this period, international travelers were allowed to obtain their visas upon arrival in the country.

Today, Ugandan Immigration confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the e-visa system has been “successfully upgraded and is now fully operational.”

Immigration explains that all applicants for visas, work or entry permits, residence certificates or passes can “now conveniently apply for these services online.”

Uganda e-Visa system updated to “ensure a seamless experience for all applicants”

“We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation during the upgrade period, and our team is dedicated to delivering professional services to ensure a seamless experience for all applicants,” the authorities added.

The official Uganda e-visa portal, available at visas.immigration.go.ug, is a digital platform that allows potential travelers and residents to easily submit their visa applications online.

The system simplifies the application process for various types of visas, including tourist, business, East African Tourist Visa, work permits, residence certificates, as well as student, researcher, and visitor passes.

Through this interface, users can fill and submit their forms, upload required documents, pay for their visa application online, and track the progress of their applications in real time, without having to physically visit an embassy, consulate, or immigration office.

The cost of the ordinary e-visa is US$50.
