Traveling to Oman: visa-free or e-Visa? What you need to know before you go

Visiting Oman has never been easier. With a visa-free policy for many nationalities and a convenient online e-Visa system, the Sultanate is opening its doors to more travelers than ever before.

Once considered a hidden gem tucked between desert and sea, the Sultanate of Oman is now gaining popularity among travelers looking for authenticity, breathtaking landscapes, and well-preserved traditions.

To support this growing interest, Omani authorities have significantly streamlined their entry requirements. Today, many visitors can take advantage of short-term visa exemptions, while an online e-Visa platform is available for others.

14 days visa-free in Oman for citizens of 100 countries

To boost tourism, Oman has introduced a 14-day visa-free entry for travelers from a select first group of countries, including many from Europe, North America, East Asia, and Oceania. Entry is straightforward, as long as a few basic conditions are met.

Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond their arrival date, provide a confirmed hotel reservation, a round-trip airline ticket, travel health insurance, and proof of sufficient funds for their stay. This exemption requires no prior application and no visa on arrival, but it is strictly limited to 14 non-renewable days.

Here is the list of countries in the first group that are eligible for the 14-day visa-free entry to Oman:

  • Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China (includes Hong Kong and Macau), Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guinea, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Vatican, Venezuela

Note: Citizens of GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE) do not require a visa to enter Oman.

Conditional visa-free entry for residents or visa holders from Western countries

A second group of nationalities may also be eligible for a 14-day visa-free stay in Oman, but only under certain additional conditions.

These travelers, often from parts of Africa, Asia, or Latin America, can enter Oman without a visa only if they already hold a valid visa or residence permit from one of the following countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, any Schengen Area country, Australia, or Japan. Permanent residency in a GCC country also qualifies.

This policy recognizes the credibility of immigration statuses already approved by trusted third countries. It also extends to accompanying spouses and children, even if they don’t share the primary traveler’s nationality, as long as all other conditions are met.

The following countries are conditionally eligible for a 14-day visa-free stay in Oman:

  • Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Maldive Islands, Mauritania, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.

The Oman e-Visa: a digital option open to all

For travelers not eligible for visa-free entry, or for those wishing to stay in Oman for more than 14 days, the electronic visa (e-Visa) system offers a simple and accessible solution. Applications can be submitted online through the official Royal Oman Police portal: evisa.rop.gov.om.

The platform allows applicants to create an account, complete an online form, upload required documents (passport and ID photo), and pay the fees online—all without needing to visit an embassy or consulate.

Several visa types are available based on your travel profile and trip duration:

  • 10-day single entry e-Visa: 5 Omani Rials (approx. $13 USD)
  • 30-day single entry e-Visa: 20 Omani Rials (approx. $52 USD)
  • 30-day multiple entry e-Visa: 50 Omani Rials (approx. $130 USD)
