As of January 30, 2025, Tanzania could suspend its visa-on-arrival system in favor of e-Visa.
Earlier this week, there was some doubt as to whether or not travelers entering Tanzania after November 30, 2024 would continue to be issued with a visa on arrival.
The confusion arose from the diffusion of a supposed circular stating that, after this date, only electronic visas would be offered to international visitors.
After three days of rumor-mongering, the Tanzanian authorities announced yesterday that the government had not suspended its visa-on-arrival option, but was inviting travelers to opt for an e-Visa to facilitate the the immigration process upon arrival.
The note from Tanzania’s Immigration Department does not specify whether this formality will remain permanent, however, and some foreign ministries are claiming that by 2025, Tanzania will indeed suspend its visa-on-arrival service.
As of January 30, 2025, Tanzania will stop issuing visas on arrival
On its page dedicated to travel formalities in Tanzania and updated on November 6, French diplomacy announces that as of January 30, 2025, “the issuance of visas on arrival will be suspended”.
The same statement was made by the Canadian authorities, who indicated in yesterday’s update that, as of January 30, 2025, “the Tanzanian authorities will no longer issue visas on arrival. You will neet to apply for an eVisa before travelling to Tanzania.”
For the time being, the Tanzanian authorities have not communicated on this suspension of visas on arrival announced for next year via their official websites and channels.
The travel formalities experts at VisasNews therefore strongly advise travelers planning a trip to Tanzania to apply for an electronic visa (e-Visa) before their departure on the government portal: visa.immigration.go.tz.
Well it would a shame na ujinga maana watu wanokuja kwenu wataenda nchi za karibu which will kill your tourism industry again benefiting Kenya who provides both visa options of either evisa au kuchukulia ukifika sasa acheni upumbavu muiendeleze nchi sio kuieudiaha nyuma na mtambie. Vyenu sio nchi nyingine zitambie vyenu
This would not be a problem if the website worked properly. In the past months many of my clients haven’t been able to process the payment. No way to get this visa. Should not be mandatory if the website is not safe and does not work properly.
