In a statement released on March 11, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration announced adjustments to its services during a particularly significant period in the national calendar.
This period coincides with Nyepi, the Saka New Year observed primarily in Bali and marked by a day of silence, as well as Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan and is associated with large-scale travel movements across the archipelago.
In this context, authorities have decided to temporarily suspend all administrative immigration services. Offices will be closed from Wednesday, March 18 through Tuesday, March 24, 2026, inclusive, with normal operations resuming on Wednesday, March 25.
This suspension notably affects passport services, residence permits, and the electronic visa (e-Visa) portal, which will also be temporarily unavailable during this period.
Indonesian authorities urge users to plan ahead

In light of this temporary suspension, Indonesian authorities are urging users, both citizens and foreign nationals, to anticipate their administrative procedures.
They specifically recommend completing any ongoing applications by March 17, 2026, to avoid delays or administrative complications during the closure period.
Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, emphasized this point, highlighting the importance of early preparation, particularly given the simultaneous shutdown of the e-Visa platform.
Given that the e-Visa portal will also be temporarily closed, we advise citizens and foreign nationals to complete their document processing immediately.

Beyond managing administrative flows, this recommendation also aims to reduce the risk of overstays during a period marked by increased travel. Authorities further clarified that visa applications paid on March 17, 2026, will only be processed starting March 25, when services resume.
Indonesia: borders remain open and visas on arrival maintained during holidays
Despite the suspension of administrative services, essential functions related to entry and exit from the territory will remain fully operational.
Authorities confirmed that border control operations at international airports and seaports will continue without interruption, operating 24 hours a day.
International travelers will therefore still be able to enter Indonesia under normal conditions. Visa on Arrival (VoA) schemes will remain available, ensuring continuity for foreign tourists throughout the holiday period.
For urgent visa-related inquiries—particularly for foreign nationals with ongoing applications or specific situations—the administration recommends using electronic communication, by contacting evoa@imigrasi.go.id or contact@imigrasi.go.id.
This period of joint holidays, marked by significant nationwide travel, represents a particularly sensitive time for immigration-related administrative procedures.
Authorities are therefore urging travelers and foreign residents to remain vigilant, particularly regarding the validity of their stay documents. “We advise the public to consistently monitor the latest information through our official website at www.imigrasi.go.id and our official social media channels to stay updated during this long holiday period,” the authorities added.
