Ghana: Several embassy websites down, e-Visa portal remains available

Numerous official websites operated by Ghanaian embassies and high commissions are currently unavailable due to technical issues. Missions in Paris, London, Washington, Brussels, Madrid, Ottawa and Tokyo are among those affected. Ghana’s national e-Visa portal, however, remains operational.

A technical disruption is currently affecting a significant portion of the Ghanaian diplomatic network’s online services.

Since August 17, 2026, several Ghanaian embassies and high commissions have reported that their websites are temporarily unavailable. The Ghana High Commission in London confirmed that it was experiencing a “temporary technical issue” and said work was underway to restore its website.

In Washington, the Embassy of Ghana has also reported technical difficulties affecting its online systems and disrupting certain services.

At least 13 Ghanaian diplomatic missions affected

Checks conducted by VisasNews on August 18, 2026, show that the disruption extends well beyond those two missions.

The same outage notice is currently displayed on the websites of Ghanaian missions in Paris (France), London (UK), Washington (US), Madrid (Spain), Bern (Switzerland), Brussels (Belgium), Ottawa (Canada) and Rome (Italy).

The disruption is also affecting New York (US), Tokyo (Japan), Nairobi (Kenya), Doha (Qatar) and The Hague (Netherlands), bringing to at least 13 the number of diplomatic missions where VisasNews was able to directly confirm the same temporary service notice.

The message displayed is identical across the affected websites: the mission states that its website is “temporarily unavailable,” apologizes for the inconvenience and asks users to check back later.

The outage does not appear to be affecting Ghana’s entire diplomatic network, however. At the time of our checks, the websites of missions in Pretoria (South Africa), Abuja (Nigeria), Ankara (Turkey), Moscow (Russia) and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) remained accessible.

Ghana’s e-Visa portal remains operational

For travelers, the unavailability of these diplomatic websites does not mean that applications for a Ghana electronic visa (e-Visa) have been suspended.

The Ghana High Commission in London is directing users to the government portals for passport, Ghana Card and e-Visa applications while the disruption continues.

The Embassy of Ghana in Washington has also advised people who need to travel urgently to Ghana because of an emergency to apply through the Ghana E-Visa platform: evisa.immigration.gov.gh.

Ghana’s official eVisa portal, operated by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, remains accessible as of August 18, 2026. Travelers can still use the platform to check their eligibility, submit a visa application online and track their application.

Officially launched in May 2026, the electronic system significantly changed the way travelers apply for a Ghanaian visa by centralizing much of the process on a national platform that operates separately from individual embassy websites.

No timeline announced for service restoration

So far, no specific timeline has been announced for the affected websites to return to normal.

The Ghana High Commission in London has said only that efforts are underway to restore its website “as soon as possible,” while other missions are displaying notices asking users to check back later.

Ghana’s central Ministry of Foreign Affairs website remains accessible. At the time of our checks, VisasNews had not identified any ministry statement explaining the exact cause of the disruption, its full scope or how long it is expected to last.

VisasNews Take

For travelers who need a visa for Ghana, the current disruption is not preventing e-Visa applications: the national platform remains accessible and operational. The issue primarily affects the websites of several Ghanaian diplomatic missions, although it may make it more difficult to access certain information or local consular services. As the situation could change quickly, VisasNews is monitoring the gradual restoration of the affected websites.
