Ecuador launches electronic visa system

Ecuador has just launched an electronic visa system “eVISAS” to simplify the entry of foreign visitors into the country.

“Ecuador welcomes visitors with an easy and secure option: the electronic visa”.

With these words, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador (MREMH) proudly announces the launch of its new “eVISAS” electronic visa system, “a 100% online platform designed to facilitate the entry of foreigners into the country”.

In a statement released late last week, Ecuadorian diplomacy explains that travelers who wish to visit Ecuador for tourism, investment, or family reunification can now do so more easily thanks to the “eVISAS” system.

According to authorities, the “eVISAS” system allows you to “apply for your visa from anywhere in the world, whether or not there is an Ecuadorian consulate nearby”.

“Convenience”, “Speed”, “Security” and “Transparency”: key features of Ecuador’s electronic visa

Last May, Ecuador announced the upcoming digitization of its consular services by introducing electronic visa and apostille services.

Since July 5, travelers required to obtain a visa to visit Ecuador can apply through the government portal: serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec.

According to Ecuadorian authorities, the benefits of the “eVISAS” system are as follows:

  • Convenience: No travel or long queues. You apply for your visa from home.
  • Speed: The online process speeds up processing and response times.
  • Security: Data and payments are protected by the strictest security standards.
  • Transparency: Access to clear and updated information on requirements and application status.

“During the transition to this new system, Ecuador’s regional offices and consulates abroad will continue to provide in-person assistance for visa management”, states the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Citizens of 39 countries need a visa to travel to Ecuador

On the portal, applicants must fill out some personal information and upload an ID photo, a passport copy valid for at least 6 months, a criminal record, proof of means of subsistence, a travel itinerary, and their round-trip ticket.

Expect to pay $50 USD, payable online by credit card, for a 90-day tourist visa.

“This new platform not only facilitates your travel but also promotes the economic and tourist development of our country by allowing more people to visit us and discover the wonders that Ecuador has to offer. The “eVISAS” system strengthens our border security by enabling better control and verification of those entering the country. This ensures orderly and safe migration for both visitors and Ecuadorian citizens”, explains the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nationals of the following 39 countries must obtain a visa to travel to Ecuador:

  • Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Congo, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, India, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Yemen.
