The Dominican Republic has once again extended its measure designed to make it easier for tourists to enter the country.
According to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), travelers from several countries may continue entering Dominican territory with a passport that is valid only for the duration of their stay, without the usual requirement of having six months of validity remaining.
This extension, covered by the memorandum continuing Resolution DGM-01-2024 of May 31, 2024, now applies from December 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026.
Introduced in August 2022 to boost post-pandemic tourism recovery, the exemption from minimum passport validity has already been renewed several times.
Which countries qualify for this eased entry rule in the Dominican Republic?

The policy applies to citizens of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador traveling exclusively for tourism.
It also applies to foreign nationals of other countries as long as they hold travel documents that allow them to freely enter one of the countries listed above.
As an exception, eligible travelers’ passports only need to remain valid during their stay and until their departure.
The traditional rule requiring at least six months of remaining passport validity continues to apply to all other nationalities.
In its statement, the DGM said it aims to “eliminate barriers and ensure a more streamlined entry process for visitors from key source markets.”
The measure supports the Dominican government’s broader goal of “promoting international tourism and simplifying immigration processes,” particularly to maintain the country’s competitiveness among regional destinations.
Travel requirements that remain unchanged for the Dominican Republic
Despite the relaxed rules, several requirements still apply:
- All travelers must hold a valid passport (or one valid for at least six months), a return or onward ticket, and, when applicable, a visa based on their nationality.
- Visitors (excluding passengers arriving by private flights, non-commercial vessels, ferries, or cruise ships) must complete the electronic “e-Ticket” form on the eticket.migracion.gob.do portal before their arrival, which generates a QR code to be presented upon entry and exit from the Dominican Republic.
- The maximum stay without a visa remains generally limited to 30 days, with the possibility of extending up to 120 days once in the country.
