Belize introduces a digital declaration for travelers

Belize launches a new digital customs and immigration declaration system for travelers.

In an initiative to improve the traveler experience and modernize its digital infrastructure, Belize has officially launched a new digital declaration system for immigration and customs. The system, designed for all travelers entering or leaving the country, represents a major step forward in optimizing border processes.

Developed in collaboration between the Department of Border Management and Immigration Services, the Ministry of Utilities, Energy, Logistics and Governance, and the Department of Customs and Excise, this platform now enables travellers to submit their information in advance via a user-friendly online portal: belizetravel.immigration.gov.bz.

The aim is twofold: to improve data accuracy and simplify border crossings.

A gradual launch at Philip Goldson International Airport

Since December 1, 2024, this system has been available to travelers using Philip Goldson International Airport, the country’s main entry and exit point. A three-month introductory phase will familiarize users with the new platform. During this period, both paper and digital forms will be accepted, to facilitate a smooth transition to a 100% digital solution.

“This shift to a digital system underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing travel procedures and enhancing the overall traveler experience. As the peak tourism season approaches, the transition will significantly reduce, and ultimately eliminate, the need for paper forms, ensuring faster and more convenient immigration and customs processing for all travelers,” says Tanya Santos, the Immigration Department’s Director General.

Information required to complete the Belize travel declaration

On the Belize authorities’ portal, travellers must fill in the following information:

  • Date of arrival in Belize
  • Port of embarkation (Last city before arriving in Belize)
  • Flight number
  • Passport details (surname, first name, date of birth, number,…)
  • Marital status
  • Profession
  • Home address
  • Countries visited in the last 30 days
  • Length of stay in Belize
  • Place of residence during stay in Belize

Once this information has been entered, a QR-coded arrival form and customs declaration are generated, to be presented on arrival in the country.

Belize visa policy

Belize has a favorable visa policy to encourage tourism and facilitate international travel. Nationals of many countries can enter Belize without a visa for short-term tourist stays.

Citizens of the European Union, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Latin America do not need a visa to enter Belize. Travelers with a multiple-entry visa from a Schengen member country, the USA or Canada, as well as US and Canadian permanent residents, are also exempt from visa requirements for 30 days.

Visa-exempt visitors must present :

  • A passport valid for at least 30 days after the date of arrival.
  • A return or onward ticket.
  • Sufficient funds to cover the duration of the stay.

On arrival, a one-month stay is usually granted. Visitors wishing to extend their stay can apply to local immigration authorities for an extension. The conditions and fees associated with these extensions may vary.

Nationals of certain countries are required to obtain a visa before visiting Belize. It is advisable to consult the Belize consular authorities or the official Belize immigration website for accurate and up-to-date information on visa requirements.
