The Dominican Republic is once again extending its measure to facilitate entry for travelers: until November 30, 2025, tourists from eligible countries will be able to present a passport that is simply valid for the duration of their stay.
On December 1, 2024, the Dominican Republic extended its exceptional measure concerning the validity of passports for travelers from several countries, including those of the European Union and the United States.
Initially scheduled to expire on November 30, the General Directorate of Migration of the Dominican Republic today confirmed to VisasNews that this provision has now been extended until November 30, 2025.
This facility allows tourists to enter the Dominican Republic with a passport valid only for the duration of their stay, without requiring the additional six months of validity usually required.
Several countries concerned by this ease of entry into the Dominican Republic
This initiative, introduced in August 2022 to boost tourism, has already been extended several times.
As stipulated in Resolution DGM-01-2024, this measure applies to nationals of European Union countries, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador, traveling exclusively for tourist purposes.
The following are considered to be tourist trips: holidays/visiting the country, a friendly or family visit, getting married, a stopover, for medical reasons, or certain professional activities, such as attending a meeting.
To travel to the Dominican Republic, tourists need a passport valid for the duration of their stay (for eligible countries) or 6 months (for other nationalities), and an entry and exit ticket.
All travelers must also fill in an electronic “e-Ticket” form before arrival, available on the official website of the Dominican authorities. This is free of charge, and generates a QR code for presentation at entry and exit controls.
The Dominican Republic generally does not require a visa for tourist stays of less than 30 days for citizens of many countries, but it is imperative to check the specific conditions according to your nationality with the consular authorities or on the official Dominican government websites.
