Thailand expands e-Visa system

Thailand embassies and consulates general in 39 countries now offer electronic visa (e-Visa) issuance.

Thailand has just announced the expansion of its electronic visa (e-Visa) program, which is now available at 59 Thai embassies and consulates-general around the world.

The move aims to simplify and streamline the visa application process for travelers to Thailand, allowing them to submit their visa applications online, without having to visit an embassy or consulate.

While the e-Visa was previously available in only 23 countries and 38 consular offices, the service now covers a wide network of cities, spanning countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia, as well as Africa and Oceania.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that “Thailand’s e-Visa services is now available at 59 Embassies and Consulates-General. Foreign applicants with current location in the areas covered by these Embassies and Consulates-General can apply for e-Visa at www.thaievisa.go.th.”

As of July 15, 2024, Thailand grants visa exemption to citizens of 93 countries and territories allowing these travelers to stay up to 60 days in the visa-free period. This visa exemption can be extended by 30 days on site.

By 2025, Thailand will introduce an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for its visa-exempt visitors (no confirmed effective date yet).
