Chad’s electronic visa platform continues to gain momentum.

In a video published on October 1, 2026, Chad’s National Police provided an update on the e-Visa system, releasing several figures on daily application volumes, processing procedures and current turnaround times.

According to the authorities, the evisa.td system now receives more than 100 applications a day, compared with fewer than 10 when it was launched in December 2024.

The increase comes as the platform has become a central part of Chad’s visa issuance system and as the country prepares for another major change to its entry rules on January 1, 2027.

From fewer than 10 to more than 100 e-Visa applications a day

Chad launched its electronic visa on December 11, 2024, with the aim of digitizing and simplifying the visa application process.

Nearly two years later, authorities are reporting a sharp increase in its use.

The head of the e-Visa department said that since the system’s launch, the platform has seen “a steady increase,” with the number of applications rising “from fewer than 10 applications a day to more than 100.”

That growth has accompanied the wider rollout of the electronic system. Since May 11, 2026, the e-Visa has been mandatory for foreign travelers who require a visa, with new applications required to be submitted through the dedicated platform.

Multiple services are involved in screening applications

The National Police’s update also provides a clearer picture of what happens after an application is submitted.

Several specialized services are involved in receiving and reviewing applications, checking the information provided and, when necessary, using international police cooperation mechanisms.

The e-Visa official referred to “rigorous processing of applications across the entire processing chain, including Interpol.”

Each application therefore goes through a screening process before it can be approved.

The e-Visa department manages the procedure electronically from registration through final approval, including biometric enrollment.

The system also includes a dedicated IT component responsible for platform security, data monitoring and user support.

The platform covers all standard visa categories

Chadian authorities also confirmed that the platform is now fully operational.

The head of the e-Visa department said that “the Chad e-Visa platform is fully operational and covers all standard visa categories,” as also indicated on the official electronic visa application portal.

Requirements and supporting documents can nevertheless vary depending on the applicant’s profile and type of activity.

According to the National Police, “the conditions for obtaining a visa vary depending on the applicant’s sector of activity.”

Workers are notably required to provide the appropriate employment authorization, while staff members of NGOs, associations or religious organizations must submit supporting documentation relating to their organization.

Express processing takes between 24 and 72 hours

The video also provides further details on e-Visa processing times.

According to the authorities, express processing generally takes 24 to 72 hours, while the standard procedure may take 10 to 15 days, subject to any additional checks.

These timeframes refer to the administrative processing of the application and may therefore vary when a case requires further verification.

African nationals will be visa-exempt starting January 1, 2027

The e-Visa platform’s expansion comes three months before a major change to Chad’s entry requirements.

Starting January 1, 2027, Chad is expected to waive entry visa requirements for nationals of all African countries.

The January 1 deadline is specifically referenced by Chad’s National Police in its October 1 communication, which presents the development of the e-Visa platform as another step in the modernization of the country’s immigration procedures.

Several practical details of the future exemption have yet to be clarified, including the maximum permitted length of visa-free stays and whether travelers will be required to complete any additional entry formalities.

Until the measure takes effect, African nationals who are not already visa-exempt remain subject to the current entry requirements and, when a visa is required, must apply through the e-Visa platform.

For other nationalities that continue to require a visa, the electronic system will remain the application channel.

VisasNews Take

Chad’s National Police has released several concrete figures showing how firmly established the e-Visa system has become: the platform now records more than 100 applications a day, compared with fewer than 10 when it launched in December 2024. Authorities also report processing times of 24 to 72 hours for express applications and 10 to 15 days for the standard procedure. From January 1, 2027, however, the announced visa exemption for all African nationals will significantly change the number and profile of travelers who need to use the e-Visa system.
