The cost of a visa for Egypt will increase at the beginning of next year.
In Circular No. 173/2026, distributed to tourism industry professionals, the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (E.T.A.A.) states that the fee for a single-entry visa will increase to $33 starting January 1, 2027. The E.T.A.A. is the professional body representing Egyptian travel agencies and tourism companies, including in their dealings with public authorities.
The document specifically refers to an Egyptian Cabinet decision dated August 13, 2026, approving a $3 increase in entry and transit visa fees. The circular states that a single-entry visa will cost $33 and that an additional $6 in service, issuance and banking fees, including taxes, may apply.
Single-entry visa fee to rise from $30 to $33
The new pricing is now clear: the single-entry visa, currently priced at $30, will cost $33 starting January 1, 2027.
The E.T.A.A. circular states that the Cabinet decision provides for a $3 increase in entry and transit visa fees and explicitly confirms that the single-entry visa fee will rise to $33.
The new circular primarily clears up the uncertainty created by the publication of Decree No. 2553 of 2026 earlier this summer.
The decree set a $15 fee, effective January 1, 2027, on entry and transit visas. Read in isolation, that figure could have suggested that the full $15 would be added to the $30 travelers currently pay, potentially bringing the visa price to $45.
In its previous analysis, however, VisasNews noted that the text did not support that conclusion.
The fee in question was already included in the visa price and was set at $12. Raising it to $15 therefore represents an actual increase of $3.
Cairo digital visa on arrival to cost $39
The situation is slightly different for travelers using the new digital visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport.
Since August 1, 2026, Egypt has been piloting a Digital Visa-on-Arrival system at Cairo airport, replacing the traditional visa sticker with a QR code. Travelers can obtain it through the dedicated portal before arrival or through self-service kiosks installed in the airport’s arrival halls. Egyptian authorities have described the program as a pilot that is expected to be gradually expanded to other airports and border crossings.
The process currently costs $36, consisting of a $30 visa fee plus $6 in digital service charges.
Starting January 1, 2027, the total cost will therefore rise to $39, broken down as follows: $33 for the visa + $6 in service, issuance and payment fees.
$33 or $39: What will travelers actually pay?
The two amounts apply to different situations.
The base fee for a single-entry visa will be $33 starting January 1, 2027.
At Cairo International Airport, travelers using the digital visa on arrival with a QR code will have to pay an additional $6 service fee, bringing the expected total to $39.
That distinction could change as the digital system is rolled out to additional Egyptian airports and entry points. When the pilot program was launched, authorities said the system would first be assessed in Cairo before being gradually expanded across the country.
At this stage, it is therefore not possible to say that all travelers who require a visa will automatically pay $39 in 2027.
What about the e-Visa obtained before departure?
Another important distinction is that the digital visa on arrival currently being tested in Cairo should not be confused with Egypt’s e-Visa, which is applied for and approved before travel through the Egyptian Ministry of Interior portal.
The official portal currently continues to list the following fees:
- $30 for a single-entry tourist e-Visa;
- $65 for a multiple-entry tourist e-Visa.
No updated fee schedule taking effect on January 1, 2027 has yet been published on the portal.
It would therefore be premature to say that the e-Visa obtained before travel will cost $39 starting in January. That amount currently corresponds to the future cost of the digital visa on arrival in Cairo, not an officially announced fee for the standard e-Visa.
The future price of both the single-entry and multiple-entry e-Visas therefore remains to be confirmed.
