Morocco is lifting visa requirements for Albanian citizens traveling to the country for short stays, effective August 15, 2026.
In a statement issued on August 14, 2026, Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said it had been informed of the decision by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, which is accredited to Albania and based in Rome.
The measure officially takes effect on August 15, 2026. However, the statement does not specify the maximum length of stay allowed under the visa exemption.
Until now, Albanians needed a visa to travel to Morocco
Until the exemption takes effect, Albanian citizens traveling on ordinary passports have been required to obtain a visa to enter Morocco.
Some travelers, however, were eligible to use Morocco’s electronic visa (e-Visa) system, particularly if they held a residence permit valid for at least 180 days at the time of application and issued by an EU country, the US, Australia, Canada, the UK, Japan, Norway, New Zealand or Switzerland.
The e-Visa was also available to holders of certain non-electronic multiple-entry visas valid for at least 90 days at the time of application and issued by a Schengen Area country, the US, Australia, Canada, the UK, Ireland or New Zealand.
The online process, available through the official Accès Maroc portal, allowed eligible travelers to apply for an e-Visa for tourism or business purposes. Morocco’s electronic visa is valid for up to 180 days from the date of issue and allows a stay of up to 30 days.
Travelers who did not meet the e-Visa eligibility requirements still had to apply for a visa through the standard consular process.
Visa exemption first announced in March 2025
The lifting of visa requirements fulfills a commitment made by Rabat and Tirana more than a year ago.
On March 1, 2025, following a meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers, Morocco announced its decision to waive visa requirements for Albanian nationals traveling for short stays.
At the time, the joint declaration stated that the procedures needed to implement the exemption still had to be finalized.
With the measure taking effect on August 15, 2026, that process is now complete, allowing Albanian citizens to travel to Morocco visa-free for short stays.
