Turkey is easing entry requirements for some Algerian travelers.
The measure was formalized by Presidential Decree No. 11456, signed on June 19, 2026, by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published on June 20, 2026, in the Resmî Gazete, Turkey’s Official Gazette. The decree expands the visa exemption granted to Algerian nationals holding ordinary passports by lowering the eligible age threshold from 65 to 50.
Algerian citizens holding ordinary passports are now exempt from visa requirements if they are under 15 or over 50, for tourist trips to Turkey as well as for transit. The maximum authorized stay is 90 days within any 180-day period.
A partial exemption, not a full visa waiver
The decision does not remove the visa requirement for all Algerian nationals.
Ordinary passport holders between the ages of 15 and 50 still need a visa to travel to Turkey. However, Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Algerians aged 15 to 18 and 35 to 50 may, under certain conditions, apply for a one-month, single-entry electronic visa (e-Visa), particularly if they hold a valid Schengen, U.S., U.K. or Irish visa or residence permit.
Algerian holders of official passports, for their part, remain visa-exempt for stays of up to 90 days.
The measure comes amid sustained bilateral ties between Turkey and Algeria. In recent months, Ankara and Algiers have stepped up political and economic exchanges, with both sides seeking to strengthen cooperation in several areas, from trade to investment.
VisasNews Take
In practical terms, this easing measure applies to a clearly defined but potentially large group of travelers. By lowering the threshold from 65 to 50, Turkey is extending visa-free access to more Algerian nationals, including those traveling for short tourism stays, family visits, medical care, shopping trips or transit.
For travelers and travel agencies alike, the key point remains very concrete: eligibility depends on the traveler’s age, the type of passport they hold and the purpose of their trip. Algerians who do not fall within these age groups should continue to check whether they need a visa or qualify for an e-Visa before departure.
