Equatorial Guinea is highlighting the results of its electronic visa system, which authorities describe as a tool now firmly established in the country’s entry procedures.
In a statement published on April 15, 2026, the Equatoguinean government said that 28,479 visas had been approved between July 2023, when the project was launched, and March 2026. The evaluation meeting was held on April 14 at the People’s Palace in Malabo, under the chairmanship of Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, who was presented as the driving force behind the initiative.
Equatorial Guinea’s e-Visa system is operated with support from VFS Global, in collaboration with several Equatoguinean institutions. The government said the tool is functioning properly overall and also noted that the revenue generated has already covered nearly half of the public investment made to launch the project.
Access challenges and processing times linked to the completeness of the application
Despite what it described as an encouraging assessment, the authorities acknowledged that access to the platform is not always seamless for all applicants.
The statement refers to connection difficulties from certain parts of the world. The Directorate General for Foreign Nationals and VFS Global cited technical issues they described as limited and not disruptive to the system’s overall operation. Among the explanations put forward were brief power outages, as well as the use of VPNs by some users, which officials said may interfere with access to the platform.
The government of Equatorial Guinea also reviewed the differences in processing times observed across applications.
According to the authorities’ explanation, delays mainly affect files containing an error or an item that needs to be corrected. In such cases, a request for changes is sent to the traveler by email. If that message is not checked promptly, processing may take longer.
At the end of the meeting, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue congratulated the teams in charge of the electronic visa system and encouraged them to keep up their efforts.
